So you love your home--- maybe it’s the location or the yard, the style or dining room, but there are some things you would like to change. Maybe your family size and needs have change, but you don’t want to move. If you are thinking about remodeling, think about making changes that not only improve your daily life, but reduce your energy and water use and make your home healthier. Remodeling can be a green alternative. You are extending the life of your home for decades, preserving the embodied energy in the existing structure and preserving your neighborhood.
When you are remodeling it is the perfect time to look at some basic features and update them for energy efficiency, comfort and safety. Windows, insulation, appliances, plumbing fixtures, wiring, furnaces and hot water heaters can all be evaluated as part of your renovation. If they are part of the scope of work, it is the perfect opportunity to install high-efficiency products or new insulation and sealing.
